Let us learn something new for English conversation!
Many people like to talk about the new year.
2020 is a very special year.
2020 is a leap year.
Do you know what a leap year is?
It is the year in which there are 29 days in February!
While a common year has 365 days.
A leap year has 366 days.
Why Does a Leap Year Happen?
The answer is about the earth going around the sun.
A year is the amount of time it takes for the earth to go around the sun once.
However, it does not happen in 365 days exactly.
The earth goes around the sun in 365 and 1/4th days!
1/4th day is only 6 hours, which is not a lot.
But it adds up over the years!
We want to be in sync with the earth’s rotation around the sun.
It is important so that the seasons are in the same months each year.
Therefore, every 4 years we have an extra day!
How Do You Know Which Year Is a Leap Year?
A leap year can be divided by 4!
Take out your calculator and check.
Divide the year by 4 and if it divides perfectly, then it is a leap year.
