A contraction is a word made by joining two words.
You use a contraction when you are writing a dialogue or speaking.
The words are shortened by removing letters!
And an apostrophe is used in place of the missing letter or letters.
Contractions are used for English speaking quickly!
Let us learn some contractions!
1. Are not = Aren’t
For example:
They aren’t coming for the party.
2. I am = I’m
For example:
I’m happy I won the race!
3. Did not = Didn’t
For example:
We didn’t go to the party.
4. Cannot = Can’t
For example:
I can’t finish my work on time.
5. Do not = Don’t
For example:
You don’t have to buy me a present!
6. Is not = Isn’t
For example:
This isn’t the first time you’ve done this.
7. He will = He’ll and She will = She’ll
For example:
She’ll handle this project. He’ll help her with it.
8. Let us = Let’s
For example:
Let’s learn English together!
9. There is = There’s
For example:
There’s no more cheese at home.
10. We are = We’re
For example:
We’re going for a movie today!
11. What is = What’s
For example:
What’s up, friends?
12. That is = That’s
For example:
That’s everything we had for today’s lesson.
13. We have = We’ve
For example:
We’ve got a lot of work to do!
14. Could have = Could’ve
For example:
You could’ve cleaned the plate.
15. Should have = Should’ve
For example:
You should’ve gone to the party.
16. You have = You’ve
For example:
You’ve upset your sister.
17. I have = I’ve
For example:
I’ve solved this problem.
18. They have = They’ve
For example:
They’ve been working very hard.
19. You Are = You’re
For example:
You’re responsible for your little brother.
20. She Is = She’s
For example:
She’s in charge of this project.
21. He Is = He’s
For example:
He’s a great athlete!
22. They Are = They’re
For example:
They’re going to play cricket.
23. Does Not = Doesn’t
For example:
Why doesn’t he reply to my text?
24. Will Not = Won’t
For example:
I won’t participate in the race.
25. Were Not = Weren’t
For example:
We were in the same school but we weren’t in the same class.
26. Was Not = Wasn’t
For example:
I wasn’t happy with my results.
27. Should Not = Shouldn’t
For example:
You shouldn’t eat a lot of sugar before going to bed.
28. Could Not = Couldn’t
For example:
We couldn’t find a TV show to watch.
29. Has Not = Hasn’t
For example:
She hasn’t paid her phone bill.
30. Had Not = Hadn’t
For example:
They hadn’t thought about their choice.
