Learn How to Tell the Time with EnglishBolo
Telling the time in English can be difficult.
When somebody asks you the time, do you know what to say?
Before we learn how to tell time let us learn about the different parts of the day.
The different parts of the day are:
- Morning
- Afternoon
- Evening
- Night
Morning
Let us use morning in a sentence.
Sentence example: I had tea in the morning.
Afternoon
Midday (also called as noon) is the middle of the day at 12 PM.
Now let us use afternoon in a sentence.
I will go to the market in the afternoon.
Evening
How do we use evening in a sentence?
I will play cricket in the evening.
Night
Let us use night in a sentence.
I like studying at night.
Now lets learn different ways to tell time!
Telling the Time at Full Hours.
We say “It is five O’ clock” to give the time at full hours.
I will reach the office at two o’clock.
Telling the time at Half Hours
We say “It is half past” to give the time at half hours.
I woke up today at half past 4 in the morning.
Telling the time at Quarter Hours
We say “It is a quarter past” for 15 minutes past the hour.
For 2:15 we would say “It is a quarter past 2.”
We say “It is a quarter to” for 15 minutes before the hour.
“It is a quarter to 3” for 2:45 when we want to tell the time 15 minutes before the hour.
