In this video, we will learn about types of present tenses in English.
There are 4 types of present tense:
1. Simple Present
2. Present Continuous
3. Present Perfect
4. Present Perfect Continuous
Simple Present Tense
Simple present tense is used to talk about schedules, facts and habits.
The tense is the base form of the verb.
For example:
“I speak English.”
“We work on Saturdays.”
“Children like sweets.”
Present Continuous Tense
Present continuous tense is used to show what is happening now.
For example,
“I am watching TV.”
Present continuous tense is formed using am/is/are + present participle.
More examples:
“She is reading a book.”
“They are trying to cook.”
Present Perfect Tense
Present perfect tense is used for things that have happened once or many times till now.
For example,
“I have watched this show many times.”
Present perfect tense is formed by using has/have + past participle.
More examples:
“I have been to Mumbai.”
“She has eaten here before.”
Present Perfect Continuous Tense
Present perfect continuous tense shows that something started in the past and is still happening now.
For example,
“The football match has been going on for an hour.”
The form is has been/have been + present participle.
For example:
“I have been playing cricket for 5 years.”
“They have been working since 1985.”
