Words to Know | Practise English Speaking
There are many names for different types of coffees and teas.
There are many types of coffee. Some have Italian names.
Remember these terms when you go to a coffee and chai shop:
1. Cashier – The person who will take your order. You will also pay the cashier for your order.
2. Espresso – Espresso is a strong coffee. It is served in small cups.
3. Milk and Sugar – Add them to your drink.
4. “To go” – You say “to go” if you want to take your drink and leave the shop.
5. “Have it here” – you say “have it here” if you want to sit in the shop and drink.
How to Order at a Coffee and Chai Shop:
When you order, you need to tell the cashier 3 things:
1. Size
2. Type of drink
3. Details
Step #1: Size is Small, Medium, or Large
You can order a large drink. This is a big cup or glass.
You can order a regular size. This is a normal cup.
A small drink is in a small cup!
Step #2: Type of Drink
You can order coffee. You can ask for tea.
Chai (Tea)
There are many flavours of chai or tea.
Masala chai is always available.
They also have other types of tea. They are made with different types of leaves.
There are green leaves and black leaves.
There are different flavours. Example: you get lemon flavoured tea.
It is fun to try something new!
Coffee
There are many types of coffees.
If you need help you can ask the cashier.
Step #3: Add Details
If you want your drink to be cold, you can say – “cold”
Do you want chocolate in your drink? You can say – “with chocolate”
If you do not want milk in your drink, you can say “black”.
Here are Some Examples to Help You Practise English Speaking:
“I want a small masala chai with sugar please.”
“I would like a regular coffee, black please.”
“Can I get a large cold coffee please.”
