Today we will learn about some simple tenses.
Tenses tell you when something happens.
There are 3 main tenses:
– Present tense
– Past tense
– Future tense
Let us talk about these three tenses using simple examples.
Present Tense
Present tense means now.
If you want to say you are doing something, use the present tense.
For example: I am walking to school.
Another example: I am talking to my friend.
Past Tense
Past tense means before.
If you want to say you already did something, use the past tense.
For example: I walked to school yesterday.
Another example: I talked to my friend yesterday.
Future Tense
Now, let us talk about the future tense.
Future tense means in the future.
If you want to talk about something that will happen, use the future tense.
For example: I will walk to school tomorrow.
For example: I will talk to my friend on monday.
Remember – Different tenses are used to talk about the past, present, and future:
Walked, walking, will walk.
Talked, talking, will talk.
Here are some more examples of tenses for English speaking:
Verb: To Speak
Past tense: We spoke on the phone yesterday.
Present tense: We are speaking on the phone today.
Future tense: We will speak on the phone tomorrow.
Verb: To Forget
Past Tense: I forgot her name.
Present Tense: I forget her name.
Future Tense: I will forget her name.
Verb: To Go
Past tense: I went to the store yesterday.
Present tense: I am going to the store today.
Future tense: I will go to the store tomorrow!
Verb: To Read
Past tense: I read this book yesterday.
Present tense: I am reading this book today.
Future tense: I will read this book tomorrow.
Verb: To Pay
Past tense: She paid for the breakfast.
Present tense: She is paying for the lunch.
Future tense: She will pay for dinner
The correct use of tenses will help you learn how to speak English fluently.
